The Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are One
Every human being is given a spirit by God. (Job 32:8; Pro. 20:27; Ecc. 12:7; Acts 7:59; 1 Cor. 2:11, 6:20) The Lord Jesus Christ was not only a Man, but He was also God when He came down to earth (Php. 2:6-11; 1 Tim. 3:16; 1 Jn 4:2; Isa. 9:6). The big difference between the Lord Jesus Christ and ordinary human beings is that while we were given human spirits when we were conceived, Christ's conception was "of the Holy Spirit." (Mt. 1:20-21; Lk. 1:31-35). In the flesh He was a Man, and in the Spirit He was God. Just as one cannot regard the spirit within a man as a different person from the man, one must not think of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit as two separate Persons. The Holy Bible reveals that the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, are in truth, one and the same Divine Person.
A. Jesus Christ is "Lord of all" (Acts 10:36); "Lord of the dead and the living" (Rom. 14:9); and "Lord of lords." (Rev. 17:14) There is only one Lord (Eph. 4:5) and one Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:4). Since "the Lord is the Spirit" and the Holy Spirit is also called the "Spirit of the Lord" (2 Cor 3:17), therefore, the Holy Spirit is the Lord Jesus Christ.
B. The Lord Jesus Christ is "of the Holy Spirit." (Mt. 1:20-21; Lk. 1:35) At the cross Jesus cried with a loud voice, "'Father, into Your hands I commend My Spirit.'’ And having said this, He breathed His last." (Lk. 23:46). Jesus Christ was resurrected by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:11; I Pet. 3:18); but He said the resurrection is effected by His own power (Jn. 2:19, 10:18); therefore Jesus is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is called "the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.” (Rom 8:2). He is also known as "Spirit of His Son." (Gal. 4:6)
C. "Then the Spirit said to Philip, 'Go near and overtake the chariot."' (Acts 8:29). After the baptism of the eunuch, the same Holy Spirit who is called " the Spirit of the Lord" caught Philip away. (Acts 8:39)
D. "The Spirit of God" is the same as “the Spirit of Christ" (Rom. 8:9). At the Creation God "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." (Gen 2:7). The Lord Jesus Christ also breathed on the Disciples and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit." (Jn. 20:22)
E. The Holy Spirit is called the "Spirit of Jesus Christ." (Php. 1:19) The Lord Jesus Christ promised His disciples, "I will not leave you ophans, I will come to you." (Jn 14:18) The only way in which believers can have the Comforter is for the Lord Jesus Christ to leave the world first, then receive Him in the Spirit (Jn 16:7). There is very little doubt that the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are one and the same Divine Person.
