The Christian Preppers Community
If you go to the Internet and search for the word “prepper” on Google you will find more than 250,000 results. What is a “prepper”? A prepper is a person who is preparing for a very bad time to come in America.

The prepper sees the imminent collapse of the American dollar, hyperinflation, breakdown of society and the disintergration of the city infrastructure such as roads, transportation, telecommunication, water supply, electricity, gas, etc.. They start storing food, water, batteries for survival, and even guns and ammunition for protection of their hoardings. Many are looking for lands to buy and so the prices of farmlands and rural acreages have been driven up tremendously. Preppers are increasing in numbers every day in America, so some have called it the Prepper nation.
Preppers do not want to get caught unprepared when TSHTF happens. TSHTF is a slang acronym for “The S**T Hits The Fan” that is used to describe the beginning of an extremely bad situation like when the human waste (poop) hits the fan, blowing and spreading the filthy stuff and foul smell all over the place. It is time to move away from that location. An example of TSHTF is the meltdown of the nuclear reactor in Fukushima after the earthquake and tsunami hit northern Japan. People are forced by the government to evacuate from that area as a prevention against nuclear radiation.
TSHTF is not a polite word to use amongst the elite class, but preppers are preparing for the worst scenario to happen. Christians consider the word TSHTF as vulgarity, so they prefer to call it “The Great Tribulation” [TGT] which is the biblical terminology that was spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ (Mt. 24:21-22).
Christian Preppers prepare
for the Whole Person
Most preppers are mainly concerned about their physical wellbeing during bad times and disasters, so they focus on stocking up food, drinks, batteries and other items that are required for survival. Some are buying gold, silver and other precious metals as hedges against the U.S. Dollar and economic collapse. Others go further by looking for farmlands and equipment for renewable energy such as solar and wind powered generators. All these kinds of preparation are highly essential when the Great Tribulation occurs, but there are other more important things to consider as well. Remember what our Lord Jesus Christ said, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mt. 16:26)
Besides the physical wellbeing of man Christian preppers must also prepare themselves in other aspects of life as well. We need to understand that humans are created by God in His own image (Gen. 1:27). “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground (body), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (spirit); and man became a living being (soul) (Gen. 2:7). Hence the prayer for the Christian preppers in the End Time is this. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thes. 5:23) Christians must prepare themselves spiritually, mentally, and physically for the Great Tribulation that precedes the Lord’s Second Coming (Mt. 24:21-22, 29-31) The Lord Jesus Christ said, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Mt. 24:44)
Christian Preparation must be
based on Faith and not Fear
Most preppers are fearful for the economic collapse of America. Others are fearful that the world will end soon. On April 7, 2011 the business television channel CNBC premiered “Apocalypse 2012” their special report that the World will come to an end on December 21, 2012 which is based on the Mayan calendar. It showed how businessmen are making profit out of people's fear.
Christian preppers should not base their actions out of fear, but rely on their faith in God. The Lord Jesus Christ spoke to His disciples: “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Lk. 12:32) “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." (Rom. 8:15) “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Tim. 1:7)
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” (Heb. 11:6-7)
God's Protection is through Prayer and Firearms are only used for Self Defence
Many preppers communities encourage their members to purchase firearms to protect themselves and also the food that they have stored. One of the often asked questions concerning the Christian Preppers community is whether or not they should also do the same. Christian preppers should distinguish themselves from the other secular communities. Here is what the New Testament clearly teaches regarding this issue.
We are fighting a Spiritual Warfare
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- (Eph. 6:10-18)
The Lord Jesus Christ's Teachings on the Use of the Sword
“Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: "And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have an end." So they said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." (Lk. 22:36-38)
The Lord Jesus Christ did not forbid the purchase of swords. In fact He even said, “ he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.” He also said that two swords are enough.
“And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? “ (Mt. 26:51-53)
Here is a clear indication the Lord Jesus Christ did not approve the use of the sword to harm other people. In the Christian Preppers Community the possession of firearms should only be used for self defense and preservation.
The New Testament Teaching on how to deal with the Enemy
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom. 12:17-21)
Trust in the LORD for Protection
"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” (2 Sam. 22:2-4)
Why live in a Christian community ?
There is a tendency for many preppers to remain in their city homes and try to get by just finding extra storage space for their foods. They think that this is good enough preparation. But is it? If they read the warnings and instructions of the Lord Jesus Christ concerning preparation for the Great Tribulation they will have to reconsider their plans of staying at home.
The Lord Jesus told His disciples: "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.” (Mt. 24:16-22)
Biblical church history informs us that the primitive Christians in Jerusalem left that city and evacuated to various places (Acts 8:1). If you are a serious Christian prepper you will heed the warnings and instructions given by the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will have to abandon your plans of staying in your city homes during the Great Tribulation.
There are other Christian preppers who think about finding a piece of rural land, say five to ten acres, live independently and start homesteading. That was how the early settlers in America had been doing in the past. But that was the time more than one hundred years ago. When the TGT actually comes unless you live in an Amish community it is very difficult for a single family to survive by itself. You need to be with Christian preppers of like mind in order to survive the coming Great Tribulation.
Just think of some of the problems you may have to encounter during the Great Tribulation. When the U.S. Dollar collapses there will be long lines waiting for the banks to open, and when thousands of people cannot get their money there will be civil unrest and riots. At that time the American dollar has little or no value, therefore you cannot buy any more lands. There will be no more Home Depots or Lowe's, no more architects, engineers, building contractors to build your house. Can you and your family alone build your own house, purchase and drive a tractor to farm your own land, purchase equipment to drill your own water well, construct your own septic tanks, eat only the food that you plant, construct and erect solar panels and wind turbines to generate electricity, do all your own repair when machines and equipment break down? I definitely know that my family cannot survive by ourselves, so living in a Christian community is a better option than living by ourselves.
Have you ever considered what you would do when family members become seriously ill or in other difficult situations? During the TGT you do need loving, kind, friendly and helpful Christian neighbors to worship and pray together with you. Christian preppers of like faith need to encourage one another, work with one another, if possible, do them every day throughout the duration of TGT that can last for three and half years according to the Bible prophecies (Rev. 12:13-14). You do need to live in a good Christian community during TGT.
Pseudo-Christian Preppers
One has to be very cautious about joining any Christian prepper community. Remember the Branch Davidians, David Koresh and the Waco Incident? The U.S. Government has zero tolerance on the stockpiling of firearms. There is another so-called Christian community like the People's Temple with its leader Jim Jones that ended with a mass suicide in Guyana. Sometimes, due to an overreaction to these religious cults it is easy to shun any community that purports to be Christian. Such a reaction is like throwing the baby out together with the dirty bath water. One must be rational because not all Christian communities are cults. Genuine and good Christian communities like the ones that belong to the Amish do exist, but one has to be a member of their religious sect to live in their community. To find another Self-sustainable Christian Community is not easy..
Genuine Christian Preppers Communities
I want to praise and thank our Lord Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to visit four good Christian communities that we can learn from. A Messianic Jewish Congregation in Tiberias, Israel A TJC House Church in Fuqian Province, China A Russian Apostolic Christian Community in Missouri An Amish Christian Community in Grabhill, Indiana.
Each and every one of the above four Christian communities is unique in its own ethnicity and character, and yet all of them uniformly follow the biblical pattern of operation that can be highly considered for our own communities to follow in the End Time.
The Biblical and Original
The first and original Christian Community is clearly described in Acts of the Apostles. Here are the main characteristics of the community.
With One Accord in Prayer
“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.” (Acts 1:14)
With One Accord in One Place
“Now when the Day of Pentecost had fullly come, they were all with one accord in one place. (Acts 2:1)
Filled with the Holy Spirit
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:4)
Four Main Activities
“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42)
Had all things in common
“Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,” (Acts 2:44)
Meet in the Worship Center and in Members' Homes
“So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking of bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart.” (Acts 2:46)
Preach the Lord Jesus Christ and Baptize Believers
“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:36-39)
Basic Beliefs of the Christian Community
There is Only One True God who manifested Himself as the Father (Creator), Son (Savior) and Holy Spirit (Comforter).
Salvation is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, His death and atonement for our sins by the shedding of His blood on the cross, His burial and resurrection on the third day.
Baptism is for the remission of sin and is administered in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by full immersion in the living water with His precious blood, and in the likeness of His death with head bowed.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit has the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Holy Communion is to commemorate the death of the Lord Jesus Christ by partaking of His flesh (spiritual) and blood (spiritual) in using one unleavened bread and grape juice.
Washing of Feet is to have a part with the Lord Jesus Christ. It teaches mutual love, holiness, humility, service and forgiveness.
Obey and keep all the Ten Commandments including worshiping God in Spirit and truth on the Seventh Day Sabbath (Saturday). Maintain a pure and holy life.
Sharing within the Christian Community
The Early Apostolic Community required members to sell “their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.” (Acts 2:45) This practice was necessary at that particular time in the history of the Early Church because there was a sudden increase of about three thousand new members who had been baptized (Acts 2:41). “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47) Many of the new members came “from every nation under heaven.” (Act 2:5), and when they extended their stay in Jerusalem they had to be fed and housed. In order to feed and house the additional thousands of new members it was necessary for the original one hundred and twenty disciples who were living in Jerusalem to sell “their possessions and goods to divide among all.” This communal practice was confined only to “possessions and goods” and not to houses. In fact it is clearly stated that church members live in their own homes (Acts 2:46; 1 Cor.11:22) “Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him.” (Acts 28:30)
The communal sharing of possessions and goods may also be practiced in the Christian community in the End Time by having a community center for worship and other activities that is built by the members. The community may purchase a tractor and other equipment for all members to farm the land. The community may also purchase equipment for drilling water wells for each member's home. The members may work together to build a pond to raise fish that may be shared by those living in the community. The Christian community may work on communal projects such as manufacturing and assembling of components for renewable energy equipments such as solar-powered generator and wind-powered turbines and generators.
Be a Good Christian Prepper
Transitional Period of Moving from the Present Home to the Christian Community
Many preppers are still working in the cities therefore they cannot leave their present jobs and move to the Christian Communities rightaway, that is understandable. They can first find a suitable community that is not too far from their homes, and prepare the place of refuge during the weekends when they are not working.
If they cannot find a good Christian community near their home then they need to pray and ask God to guide them to one within the country in which they live that “keeps the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Rev. 12:17; 14:12) Concerning finding a good Christian community to join here is what the Lord Jesus Christ instructed His disciples:
“Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man." (Lk. 21:36)
